Biography:
General Lee Butler served for 33 years in the United States. Butler graduated from the US Air Force Academy and the University of Paris. During his military career Butler held many flying and staff positions, including Director for Strategic Plans and Policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. On retirement, Butler was the Commander-in-Chief of the US Strategic Command.
Butler has argued that international security would best be served by total nuclear disarmament. He has expressed this view in addresses to the likes of the State of the World Forum, and has pursued disarmament issues through non-governmental organisations. Butler is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Committee on International Security and Arms Control of the National Academy of Sciences and the Canberra Commission. He now works with Peter Kiewit Sons Inc. in Nebraska.
